Technology and Children

High-resolution screens with bright colors and rapid movement, along with sound effects, attempt to replicate our reality.

Can a screen shape our perception of reality?

Tecnology is a tool that has become very useful in our day-to-day lives. It helps us to gather information, learn and discover new things. However, it is important to remember that our world exists beyond the screens we interact with. We experience our reality through our own unique perspectives and perceptions. The colors we see may not always be as bright or defined as they appear on our screens, but they are still a representation of what we see through our eyes. To truly experience our environment, we must take time to connect with nature. This cannot be accomplished with the click of a mouse.

Take a moment to imagine the stunning sunset, with all of its breathtaking colors.

Isn't it worth waiting for and savoring that moment?

During this period of time, we witness a journey characterized by distinct moments, where the hues of the sky gradually transform and captivate us, leaving us gazing up in awe. These are feelings and experiences that a mere click of a mouse cannot replicate.

What are the impacts of technology on our children?

As parents, we must consider the impact of technology on our children's ability to manage waiting times. With technological advancements, we have become accustomed to instant gratification, with quick loading times and rapid navigation on devices like smartphones, tablets, PCs, and TVs. However, such fast-paced interactions with technology do not translate to real-life scenarios. Children who are accustomed to the quick response of technology may become frustrated and demotivated when they have to wait for something in the real world. This kind of impatience can be detrimental to their overall development. While technology is a useful tool, it should not replace the time we spend with people or the opportunity to engage with society.

Why are children so interested in technology?

The varied sounds, bright lights, and fast-paced actions easily grab our attention when we interact with multimedia. However, the abundance of choices available to us can sometimes backfire, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. With just a simple tap of our fingers, we can open multiple tabs and images, endlessly browsing and selecting. This intuitive approach to using technology helps us save time and effort, as we can achieve our desired results quickly and with minimal concentration or thought.

How important is it not to neglect the development of the senses, through concrete experience?

Where do pen and paper, wooden games and paper books go?

It is important to note that artificial intelligence cannot replace the experience of real life situations and learning through experimentation. Children need to be able to make mistakes in order to understand and learn. In digital environments, everything is directed and corrected instantly, and there is no room for mental elaboration. This limits the development of skills and abilities in children.

What should we do now?

Technology is an integral part of our daily lives. It is important to understand and know how to use the different tools that come with it. However, when it comes to our children, we need to consider their needs and growth. In the early stages of their childhood, it is crucial for them to explore and understand the world around them through their own eyes, listen to the sounds of nature and the city, flip through pages of a book, and experience the scent of printed paper. They should also get their hands dirty with colours while drawing or learning to write. This helps in exercising their minds and preparing it for future learning and knowledge. Virtual world and technology can be introduced gradually later on, so that children can use it as a useful resource rather than a mere pastime.
